Why we live for? Does one person need everything? How much could we be happier if everyone has the same privilege we have?  Is it the choices that a person makes? If so, why this choice has not taken place? Do children need to suffer because of it?

 

With J&U we are planning to support children as children are our future.  As per the currently prevailing   law we can’t approach children directly, therefore we are supporting families who are less fortunate so that children will benefit for their education. With a solid education children will become good men and then good men last forever.

 

It’s just for a good cause –one sale of a packet for happier child.

 

Person who supports for good cause should have some satisfaction too. Therefore, we sell premium range starting with Tea and Coffee.

J&U is Honest humble crazy and brilliant person who love the family, therefore he will protect and devoted his life to make happy life for generations. Far as possible he will look after eco to make his family safe and create beautiful environment that his family can enjoy the life of given in first-class. He is always progressive to make happy life for generations.

           So he is nice guy to have in the family.

 

Concept

Educate, Love and care

This brand concept created through passion of Jeewaka. He wanted to see better world generations to come.

Small brief of the concept below;

The concept of this brand is to be a social brand affiliated with uplifting the mind set of all human beans. It is energetic, social, devotion, dedication, innocence, and fun.

How do we embed this in our society?

 The ever evolving corporate rat race have adversely effected on our environment has evolved on to a commercial warfare and the human values have started deteriorating, to overcome the issue, How can we reconnect to be responsible citizens of the world?

From the childhood these values are to be embedded to their lives and the brand will effectively manage physical and educational activities to have a “Happy life for generations”.

There are many programs that are active through different corporates as giving back to society. Should this responsibility be given to corporates only?

Is it sufficient and have we overcome this issues?

No, there is still enough and more room that we can effectively involve  we need to make people aware of how they be part of a responsible society.

Our objective is to educate, creating love and care and act as human in our younger generations and as much as we stress the importance of Technology.  By creating proper childhood we think we can make better world..

Brand exclusivity does not mean we can be accessed only buy a segment. J & U exclusivity is due to the value it creates by being a social responsible brand with the values that the brand intern giving back to the society. The products that carry the brand have ethical pricing affordable to premium segment and the upper middle segment of the market. Exclusive means it is how consumer perceive the brand not keeping products on fancy shelf’s.

Logo evolved process

 

Jeewaka wanted to have emblem as a logo, which he wanted to bring trust and credibility to brand. Oshadhi helped to design the logo 2013. First logo is like below;

 

It was design to sell coffee. With management decision and to progress with the brand tea bought to the product portfolio.

Initially J was Jayantha (Jeewaka father), Jeewaka and Jalinda (His brother).

To create ownership, it was told by his father to name J asJeewaka only.

We can broadly divide our community into two categories. Our people/community and external community/People whomake it easier for us to manage.

J&U brand which is the main brand of Ceylon Tea Bags which is an associate member Company of imperial group. Our revenue contributes to group staff well-being and development.

As we are established as a third world country, home income generation and finding jobs is not that easy.

You as a part of our community contribute to this worthy cause with every purchase of our Premium Tea.

Energy Conservation

 

As initial step, we have taken steps to implement ISO 50001.  This standard helps reduce energy use and therefore energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Further details regarding the standard could be obtained fromhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_50001

We have done our Energy audit and calculated thepresent carbon emissions. As a initial step towards ISO 50001, we are fixing energy calculation meters to monitor our energy consumption.  We are not buying carbon credit to reduce our emissions; we actually working towards using less emission.

Audit report suggests certain measures to implement. If we were to implement those measures, we reduce carbon emission by 13%. As a brand starting, we will follow below goals to better sustainable enterprise and planet.

As we sell products through our website, our portion of profit contribute to sustainable environment, which includesyou also as apart of the chain. As you buy our products indirectly your carbon emission has reduced as you contribute towards it.  As a small holder still we are not in aposition to calculate your contribution for reducing carbon foot print, but as time comeswe may implement such procedure that our community will feels good.

Ethical Sourcing

 

J believes success is with people. People who protects and will be protecting, which called small family.

Ethical sourcing is practice which contributestotaking caring and fairly buying. This practice leads to good governance.

At J&U what we say as ethical sourcing?

We do not buy Tea or Coffee from farmer as our volume is small, but we contribute to supply chain of material purchasing to low income families. We want to actively engage in ethical sourcing practices rather than donating to a group outside where we know actual growth in relevant family.

In reality ethical sourcing consists of where no Bribery and corruption, labour rights, working condition, child labour etc.

For our supplier chain we have not ignored supply chain family due to insufficient infrastructure or where family working together to feed their stomach.  If we ignored as normal ethical sourcing practice who will be supporting to their stomach.

Of course, at our expense we make sure supply products are hygienically suitable for consumption. 

In keeping up with the tradition of sustainable development, we source all our raw materials from source (direct purchases) with special emphasis on cottage industries and small entrepreneurs. There by we circumvent the traditional procedure of calling for quotations from middle men who pose as suppliers and retain a part of our purchase price as profit to themselves. By this we ensure that the rural folk receive the true value of their product and as a result are ensured of a comfortable livelihood. With this additional income they are able to build better houses with brick and mortar instead of wattle and daub, acquire modern cooking utensils, obtain electricity instead of using the dangerous kerosene oil lamps, better clothing and also educate their children to be responsible citizens

Our community/Our People

 

We are a small company. Our company Ceylon Tea Bags has less than 10 employees.  Company was established on 08th October 1996.  Recently the Company appointed Mr. Jeewaka Karunaratne as a Director to expand its activities.  With his experience and passion he re-established the Company vision to diversified social enterprise.  As a Company business activity was supply private label and small scale brand called J&U to embed our vision.

Ceylon Tea bags is part of IMPERIAL Group www.impratea.com  . We share resources within group.

Imperial Teas was a dream child of a few dedicated people who wanted to supply Pure Ceylon Tea to the world. The Company was formed in 1994 under the leadership of Mr. Jayantha Karunaratne who is to date the Managing Director. It was a very tough battle that had to be fought. Fortunately for us, we had the unstinted support and selfless dedication with which we managed to over come all barriers and to establish ourselves and to be what we are today. As a result of this achievement we are today under one roof housing a state of the art factory with modern tea blending and packing machinery. We also provide our staff transport to and from office, an annual medical campaign is conducted where a full medical check up is done. We also provide the staff an annual get together and a Christmas party for the whole family.

At present there are over 150 workers employed by our organisation and each one is provided with an annual medical check up. In addition to the Doctors’ and hospital charges, all medicines prescribed are also provided free of charge. The workers are also provided twice a year with gift vouchers to enable them to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and Christmas. Their children are provided with school books and scholarships etc.

As the brand started in 2015, we have less activity to mention about our external community.  Our external community includes all the people who affect and effect due to our brand activities.

As we look, we see our nearest people as our supply chain.

To start helping our external community, our supplier chain we extended to low income suppliers.

For generation to generation, find education, love and care

 

When you come to planet, we should think for generations. Generation to live with education, find love and care.

We should ask question why we live! Are we live to be like robots without love and care?

 As we started we have thought children need education, love and care. Which they will protect the planet rather we spending on planet environment such as pollution, water, corruption, and etc.  We need to tackle this problem from the seeds, which are children.

J believe children with proper education, love and care will create sustainable planet.

Internally, we also started energy conservation by implementing ISO 50001.

Rural area income

 

This is a start

 

This blog is to have a discussion about rural area income development. Probably you may know with the development of the world there has been a growth in the segment for low income holders. This may be due to transition of human power to machinery.

Due to lack of family planning (education) low income holders have large families and they can’t afford to give children education. 

With our brand we are trying to give better future for children. As first phase we selected lo income holders from North of Sri Lanka to prepare our inner pack. This will generate direct income for them rather than the brand giving back from it’s own profit to society. As it is not freebee, low income holders get motivated, happy and comfortable. 

I have seen when there is freebee, less fortunate people get really uncomfortable. With this process we give them the same status as a business woman. That is why they are motivated, happy and comfortable. Apart from business these women learn about handcraft and also occupy themselves for proper purposes.

If I use a large printing company to print my inner pack, I would have paid themLKR. 11.00 to LKR 15.00. By preparing Palmyra pack in north I pay those families LKR 60.00. This is a start. When my volume grows these families benefit more due to my less overhead such as transport.

You may ask then why productsare more than AUD 10.00, this is total cost in the supply chain to reach you (consumer), such as manufacture cost, transport, marketing money, etc. Yes I also benefit from your purchases, that is why we follow 3Ps concept (People, Planet and Profit). When brand gets more popular, overheads will be less due to volume and low income holder benefit at much higher rate.

As brand support for better future for generations, LKR 60.00 per Palmyra pack indirectly effect children of those families’ well –being such as hunger, education and etc.

Children are our future.

What do you think about this cause? Ultimately U (consumer) are the one who value the brand for what I (J) do.

We will grow hand in hand.

 

We are a small holder. We are just building up our brand. We have seen how hard it is to survive as abusiness and we feel it.

From the start we thought of helping our surrounding community to grow. So without restricting our purchases to one supplier, we selected small manufacturers for gunny bag and “Thal” pouch. Our “Thal pouch is manufactured by two families.

 With Help of one of our friends SisiraAmarabandu we reach those two families in North of Sri Lanka.

Yes, Our Tea and Coffee not participating in this program as we want our community/customer to give best mouthwatering products with highest quality.
